New Wine

New Wine

This is an exciting time of the year.  The harvest is just around the corner and we are already making new wine.  We will be getting some grapes from a winery near Keyser, WV as well as from a grower near Moorefield.  We will supplement with juice as usual.

In early June, I started two large batches of wine, one of Rustic Red and one of Riesling.  Those two are our best sellers and I wanted to make sure we didn't run out.  Unfortunately, we have run our of the Ruby Red and the Chardonel.  So, yesterday I started a 120 gallons of Chardonel and 100 gallons of a new wine I'm calling "Berry Red".  It is a blend of Rougeon grape and blackberry juice (60/40).  It will be a sweet wine.  You can really taste the blackberry juice flavors coming through in the juice.  I expect both of these wines to be ready by Christmas time and I hope you are looking forward to trying "Berry Red".

As for the rest of this year's harvest.  I am planning to make more of the Ruby Red, Vidal Blanc, Rustic Red and Classic Red, and we are thinking of adding a Moscato.  Winemaking season is the best time of the year.
